Ekins Echo - Spring 2021

Commodore’s Message Dear Members, May is finally here and it certainly has seemed like a long winter, especially without an opportunity for most of us to visit with each other. I'm happy to report that Ekins is looking fantastic. There’s now a new slide on the annex dock, ten new (easy to coil) blue hoses have also been installed. Flowers have been planted, new dimmable lights have been installed in the long house, eight new tilting umbrellas have also been added. The lumber storage area has also been completed. The new walkway between the fire pit and the longhouse, which is a big job, is progressing well. Due to the current Provincial Health Orders, we have postponed Sailpast until further notice. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members for their hard work in making Ekins the special place that it is. Shelley and I look forward to seeing all of you out on the water this boating season. Warmest regards, Mark Smith Commodore

NEW DOCK FOR EKINS The annex replacement dock (replacing the Topper float) was built and completed at Mosquito Creek Marina on March 27th by a great group of keen members. Thanks to all of you It was launched into the water on the following Monday and with additional lumber, concrete blocks and a new water slide on board, was towed up to Ekins on April 15th and installed two days later by members on our informal work weekend. Again thanks to all that participated. The old dock 45ft x 12ft needs a new home, if anyone has interest or knows of someone please contact Reg Allen or Travis Endersby

Membership

Know of any potential new members? Our Club is in demand! We have been at our cap of 125 Members for several months now, and have established a strong Wait List of 7 new members. We are offering a $1000.00 Entrance Fee discount to new members who pay their Entrance Fees now, while on the Wait List. Currently our Entrance Fees are $4,000.00, so the Entrance Fees due would be $3,000.00 plus $150.00 GST for a total of $3150.00. Annual dues (which this year are $1150.00 plus GST) will not be due until accepted as a full Active Member.

Please note that we cannot forecast or guarantee the length of time to wait on our Wait List. There are currently 6 accepted applicants on the Wait List and that they have been on that list just this year. I did remove 5 off the Wait List in January/February when we experienced some member turnover, but all other existing members have now paid up for the year. We occasionally have some changes during the year, but with Covid and the surge in boating, I am not sure that will occur again this year. So, in all likelihood, and again no guarantee, acceptance to full membership for new applicants would probably be next year. But please note that by getting their application in now, they secure their position on the Wait List, which is growing. And they would benefit from the reduced Entrance Fees offer as noted. Need a new TBYC Burgee?

Is your TBYC burgee looking tired and faded? Time for a new one! We have two types to choose from:

1. Silk screened burgee for $35.00

2. Special edition embroidered burgee for $120.00 (more substantial fabric than #1)

If you would like to get your new burgee, contact Membership Chair, Janis Ostling at jrostling@outlook.com It’s as easy as sending her a cheque and she’ll mail you the new burgee or she will have a supply on board “Big Dog”, so ask when you see her at Ekins. IN MEMORIAM As you may have heard, Dave and Karen Richardson’s daughter, Leah, passed away very recently. Leah enjoyed many wonderful occasions with her family at Ekins, and I’m sure they will always cherish those memories. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave, Karen and their entire family as they deal with this tragic loss. HAVE A GREAT SEASON!
