Ekins Work Projects – Spring 2025

Spring Work Party April 12, 13, 2025

 

Major Projects:

These are complex and multi person projects that will be led and directed by a project supervisor.

1. Annex Dock Repairs - located on shower finger supervised by A.J. Riley

2. Main Dock Repairs -located at ramp and Squamish dock supervised by TBA

3. Complete new Outhouse and access ramp build supervised by Wayne Potts

 

Spring Preparation

1. Arrange the picnic tables and planters on the docks as some have moved with winter storms.

2. Relocate blue umbrellas from the storage behind the Galley to the docks, divided evenly between the Main and Annex docks. Clean as needed. Place in holders or picnic tables (do not leave lying on the docks as they get very dirty).

3. Bring the blue hoses from the storage behind the Galley to the docks, divided evenly between the Main and Annex docks.

4. Repair/replace leaking hose bibs on all docks and repair any hose leaks – repair materials such as new clamps found in the Tool Shed.

5. Reinstall hot water on demand (paloma) heaters and propane tanks to dock showers.

6. Reinstall solar lights on the docks and Green Mile.

7. Trim and clear brush, vegetation and saplings along and under Green Mile as much as possible to allow air flow. Clear areas around the Outhouse, Tool Shed, Longhouse and walkways and burn (if allowed). This is a good fire prevention step.

8. Clear trail to Potts Point and remove any obstacles or winter windfall.

9. Burn dead branches and brush as fire burning regulations allow.

10. Restock pizza oven firewood.

11. Repair path leaving the volleyball court towards Burrard Yacht Club. Path is eroding and will require a plan to mitigate erosion – consider new plastic pipe system for drainage.

12. Clean ALL trails of branches and deadfall.

13. Finish Pirate Ship – add mast and waterproof roof – see Bob Barnes.

14. Install solar panels on new roof of Main dock structure

15. Review the Green Mile and replace any rotten planks.

16. Add/replace chicken wire as needed on the base of ramps, walkways and along the Green Mile. Use only the grid chicken wire and remove any loose pieces.

 

Fire Lounge and Fire Pit

        1.Make sure the Fire Lounge is stocked with wood.

 

Longhouse

1. Sweep debris off the roof of Longhouse.

2.Full cleanup of Longhouse, sweep floors and arrange tables and benches.

3.Disinfect and clean the Galley surfaces – sinks, counters, stainless, etc.

4.Remove any garbage left behind and disinfect and clean garbage bins.

5.New Gas Lines To Hot Water – BBQ Burners and New Stove Top.

7.Install new Gutters – see Bob Barnes.

8. Enlarge Galley as per plan – see Wayne Potts

 

When Weather Permits:

1. Repaint Main ramp stantions with matching green paint.​

2. Plant the planters with plants and herbs – probably mid-May

3. Paint railings as needed.

 

We're Looking For Specific Trades People:  

1. Ticketed Gas Fitter

2. Ticketed Electrician

3. Plumber
